The Meeting Task

In order to evaluate our skills in the basics of continuity editing and filming, in groups, we came up with ideas about filming a short sequence along the theme of The Meeting.

We were given a task to create a short clip within the duration of 15-20 minutes making a one minute sequence. As an individual I suggested ideas about what we can base the plot on and how we can develop the sequence throughout the task. From planning this, we made different decisions on a story board deciding on what shot types would be used at specific parts of the clip for different effects, the use of relevant actors in terms of deciding on who will be present in each shot and how they would correspond with the plot.

As a group we thought starting off the sequence with an Establishing shot will have a good purpose because this will allow the audience to see the area of where the meeting is being based and how the main character will have to travel to get into the building. In each section of the storyboard there was a different shot type, this consisted of Close ups, Medium Close ups and Point of View shots.
Although when editing my sequence I decided to cut some of the close ups out due to it being difficult to fit it into the next shot because of how the next shots were filmed.

From doing this task it has enabled me to understand the importance of planning for continuity edits, framing and composing shots. This is because without planning every step of the sequence it would be hard to understand the purpose for each decision that was made. It has also allowed me to understand the importance of planning for props, costume and the setting. Due to the fact that I only had 15-20 minutes to plan this sequence I was unable to plan for the use of props and costumes, although planning for this would have made the sequence more successful.

Targets:

·        Everything should have a purpose - in terms of the types of shots for different effects and use of lighting and props.

·        To be selective with footage and transitions.

·        To spend more time composing my shots - in terms of different positions in relation to the camera.

·        Plan where actors are coming in and out of shots.

.

Continuity Editing

This shows a jump shot. It's impossible edit because of the way it was videoed. in order for this to be prevented it needs to be videoed within two shots and not one.

I used the 'Trim' tool to preview both clips at the same time to find the best time to edit

Evaluation of Existing weblogs

Evaluation of Existing weblogs

Today in class we had to evaluate three existing web-logs of previous students who have already experienced and been through what I'm beginning. This was to see the standard of what is needed to achieve the best possible grade. When looking at the 'A2 Advanced Portfolios' I could see how much time, commitment and effort was spent on their blogs and on every log due to the way it was approached. All three of the blogs that I looked at had many different media and ICT techniques, using photos, videos and other websites to illustrate their work such as; Prezi and Slides share

From this I have recorded three SMART targets that will help me achieve success:
- Work completion/deadlines
- Organisation of work and folders
- Punctuality and attendance being 100%

This task was very helpful because it enabled me to see how I will take my research into consideration in terms of planning, research, production and evaluation for my blog to be successful

Introduction

Reflection Of My Practical Skills Level

Hello there, I'm Martina Conteh an A-level media student. I really enjoyed doing the first part of this course which was an AS. I've been taught numerous amount of different skills and techniques that I didn't know before the start of this course however I will definitely love to develop and share my practical skills throughout the continuation of the course.
Due to my interest in this course I chose to continue to study media because I am fascinated with how media as a whole and techniques can implement various products, also because I want to challenge myself with new practical activities and my coursework.

On my blog I will be looking to show a continuous log of my planning, research and my production work in terms of how I will go about doing it over a period of time through my posts.  I'm expecting to use a range of different skills and techniques such as; script writing software's, after effects, technical camera skills that will help me build and develop one of the best horror trailers.

I am familiar with using Photoshop and InDesign. This was used to create a front cover and contents page for my music magazine in year 12 as well as a double page spread. I am able to use a digital camera which I used for my photo shoot.
